Those Old Holidaymakers: memoria, ocio y veraneo entre los ingleses de Solís

Abstract

Este texto tiene como objetivo mostrar y analizar, desde el abordaje de la memoria de grupo y de material historiográfico, la profusa vinculación y participación que tuvo parte de la colectividad británica de Montevideo y Buenos Aires en el surgimiento y consolidación del balneario Solís, departamento de Maldonado, Uruguay, desde comienzos de s. XX. También procura aproximarse a las transformaciones de las prácticas de ocio y veraneo de esta colectividad, las cuales han ido acompasando el desarrollo turístico del lugar. El presente trabajo se enmarca en una investigación en curso centrada en ese balneario, caso singular y poco estudiado, que opera de correlato tanto del surgimiento del turismo organizado en el país, como la aparición de asentamientos costeros sobre el litoral atlántico uruguayo.
