Abstract

This article presents the results of an analysis of the impact of the CAP on production, trade and consumption of meat and meat products in Bulgaria. The effect of CAP on developing sector "meat production and processing" is weaker than the effect of the preparation to achieve EU standards before accession. Reduces the level of self-sufficiency in the country with meat since 2007 and in 2010 it was equal to 55% and meat processing industry works with 80% imported raw material. Support the livestock sub-sector at this stage is unable to solve a problem of raw material meat industry in any of its dimensions (quantity, quality, price). The increase in the cost of imported raw materials in the meat processing sector is offset by an increase in exports of finished products. The opening of the European market led to an increase in exports, but the growth of imports (mainly raw material for meat industry) is much higher, leading to a growing negative balance of foreign trade in meat and meat products. The structure of exports mainly raw materials takes place, and the processed value added products have a small share. Increasing returns of exports in the meat sector can be expected to diversify the products exported from wider geographic areas of exports to markets with high price levels in the sector. Increasing the geographical orientation of exports to third countries could positively affect business exporters of pork due to the possibilities of export subsidies.
