Abstract

This study aims to highlight the characteristics and trends of the 932 articles published between 1984 and 2022 in Algerian journals on entrepreneurship and SMEs. The analysis focused on the evolution of publications by examining the language of writing, research streams, research topics, sources and methods of data analysis in empirical works, and the level of connection between researchers. The results highlight a relatively rapid growth in publications over the last ten years, a very strong diversity of research themes, strong use of field surveys, and significant use of quantitative methods deemed by specialists to be essential for advancing knowledge in these areas. Other results show inadequacies relating to the accumulation of knowledge in the texts analyzed and the low availability of national data on entrepreneurship and SMEs, particularly at the local level.
