Why So Many Italian Economists?

Abstract

L'influenza degli economisti italiani vissuti tra Otto e Novecento, e in particolare di Vilfredo Pareto, sulla teoria economica neoclassica a tutt'oggi dominante nelle università americane fu certamente molto forte. Eppure, fino a pochi anni fa gli autori italiani erano del tutto ignoti all'economista americano medio. L'autore attribuisce la responsabilità di questo fatto all'influenza esercitata a sua volta, dagli anni Trenta ai Settanta di questo secolo, dalla scuola di Cambridge e da Alfred Marshall, che costruì una genealogia esclusivamente anglosassone degli economisti e mise in ombra, tra l'altro, sia il contributo di Pareto alla fondazione dell'economia matematica, sia il pensiero neo-ricardiano di Piero Sraffa.
