L'effetto madeleine. L'emigrazione italiana e le esportazioni di conserve di pomodori (1897-1933)

Abstract

Tra le molte conseguenze dell'emigrazione italiana, rilevate dalla vasta letteratura esistente, non sono mai state sottolineate quelle sulle esportazioni dei prodotti italiani. Il presente articolo si concentra, per la prima volta in quest'ottica, su emigrazione e diffusione dei modelli di consumo e dei cibi italiani nel mondo. In particolare, si analizza, dal punto di vista quantitativo, la relazione tra emigrazione ed esportazione di conserve di pomodoro, utilizzando un dataset relativo a 25 paesi per gli anni 1897-1933. L'analisi empirica dimostra come l'emigrazione abbia significativamente contribuito alle esportazioni italiane del prodotto.
