Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of data collected through a survey of the workforce in the theatre sector in Italy. The survey involved some workers of the sector and was carried out in June and July 2020. The paper describes this workforce’s occupational and income conditions before and after the Covid-19 pandemic, paying particular attention to the differences existing among Italian territorial areas. Such an overview is based on available secondary data and on primary data purposely collected. Territorial aspects are put in light also in the analysis of the sample survey results, namely with respect to the differences related to declared income. Moreover, the paper provides some insights about the dramatic impact of the crisis: on the one side, on the income support services and, on the other side, on the workers’ opinions about the policy measures needed to tackle the emergency and the reforms required by the sector.
