Reflections on performig arts and audiovisual employment in Italy

The New European Agenda for Culture of May 2018 points out that «Culture and creativity are important assets for the economy. Culture contributes directly to jobs, growth and external trade». In the analysis about the European context of the cultural and creative sectors - whose edges, however, are constantly evolving - employment in the performing arts has a very limited space. And if overall employment rate represents one of the main critical points issues for our country, the performing arts, which has always been a weak sector in this regard, are particularly affected by this problem. The topic primarily concerns workers in this sector, but also directly concerns enterprises and institutions. The statistical reference sources are manifold, starting from the ISTAT (Italian National Institute of Statistics) and, in addition to that, public authorities and agencies develop process-produced data according to aims that are not primarily statistical. The article intends to address, starting from these elements, the misalignment of skills between labor supply and demand, the relationship between market, education and vocational training, and the future prospects.
