Abstract

The program of educational activities and the social engagement of the Santa Cecilia Academy dates back to 1997, and is aimed at people with social disadvantage, or with different abilities or ultimately in patients, convalescents and pregnant women, for the pursuit of welfare through music therapy. Since 2016, the program has been enriched by the project «Music is healthy» thanks to the collaboration with Susan G. Komen Italy, an active association in the fight against breast cancer affiliated to Susan G. Komen of Dallas, and the Polyclinic «A. Gemelli» of Rome. The project encourages the development of music therapy in Italy, and its recognition as a scientific discipline in university education, lasts for three years (2016- 2018) and each year provides an international two-day conference, free medical screenings, two scholarships for music therapists. This article tracks a first balance of the first two editions.
