Abstract

This paper shows the results of an audience survey promoted by the Rome Opera House Foundation in June 2016. The survey focuses on the features of the audience(s) attending the opera performances produced by the Rome Opera House and provides evidence of their satisfaction and opinion related to all the elements composing the supply chain of the organization. In addition to the survey results, the paper briefly shows the trends of some primary demand indicators of the Opera House in the last decade. The analysis points out a positive scenario for the whole Italian lyrical-symphonic sector, as regards its future perspectives of audience development, giving evidence of the existence of an increasing and diversified «new public» interested in opera and symphonic traditional music, even though its attraction is conditioned by the adoption of effective cultural and marketing strategies.
