Abstract

For several years, the Italian Parliament has been examining a bill regarding the full scope of the live performing arts sector. Although the end of the last session of Parliament concluded its legislative journey, this bill (Unified Bill C. 587 and similar proposals) merits attention. It consists of a framework measure for the sector, in contrast with many others adopted over the past 40 years that almost exclusively addressed the music sector. The author analyses this document, highlighting its salient points and problems, comparing it with currently applicable laws, and focusing special attention on opera and symphony orchestra foundations. He precisely analyses how this parliamentary bill compares with the current performing arts system, including financing mechanisms and the FUS in particular.
