Abstract

This research project focuses on the role of museum networks and their sustainability in relation to social, economic and the environmental dimensions. By so doing it leaves behind the traditional approach on individual museums. The aim is to propose an analytical model that will position and substantiate such networks as platforms that may increase and promote wide-ranging development strategies. The methodology combines personal experience in the field with specific literature and interpretive analysis of the qualitative and quantitative data collected through a survey among the twenty-six museum networks in Tuscany in 2024. Working from both the potential and the critical aspects that emerged in the survey, the next step is moving on to strengthen organizational processes and practices that museum networks may activate within a more efficiently planning of local and regional cultural policies. The results of a European survey as NEMO (2022) have been considered.
