Abstract

Recognising firstly the importance of culture in European identity and its key role for present and future global challenges, the Council Resolution on the EU Work Plan for Culture 2023-2026 identifies priority issues, solutions and objectives for the sector. In particular, the resolution identifies four specific priorities: strengthening the cultural and creative sectors; improving cultural participation; the contribution of culture to environmental sustainability and strengthening the resilience of cultural heritage; increasing the cultural dimension in the EU's external relations. For each priority, the document identifies specific actions, also stating their rationale, working methods and expected results. Elaborating therefore a detailed work plan for the coming years, the resolution highlights the intrinsic value the EU attributes to culture and the commitment to its maximisation within and beyond its borders.
