The cultural enterprises in the last ten years

Abstract

The crises of this millennium have affected all activities and, among these, most of the activities of cultural enterprises. The frequency and unpredictability of crises push cultural enterprises, in order to survive in a market in strong and continuous change, to assume particular configurations: first of all, through a significant technological leap. Not all the agents operating in culture sector have suffered the crisis in the same way and with the same intensity, but a desertification has occurred given the enterprise structure (small size), the peculiarities of their markets (coexistence of market and non-market activities) and skills. In such a scenario, companies tend to shorten their time horizon, and therefore the role of the public sector becomes even more important. The changes taking place, the markets made more difficult by new technologies and new operators, will increase the size of companies (a little less small than today) and the collaboration with other companies in a supply chain logic.
