Abstract

The study analyses the importance and characteristics of Industrial Economics/Organisation and related courses (e.g. Firm Economics, Innovation Economics, Applied Economics) in Italian Universities. Attention is concentrated on first level (3-year) degree courses, set up by Italian Faculties according to the New Organisation of Studies. The research points out that the IE-IO teaching cluster plays a major role in Italian Universities, counting on about 170 courses and 160 professors. Most of the programs analyse applied microeconomic subjects related to non perfectly competitive markets, mainly monopoly and oligopoly (market structure and results, strategic interdependency, price and non-price policies, entry deterrence, etc.). Other traditional IE subjects (from structural analysis of production systems by industries and firm size, to public industrial policies) are also developed, both in general and specific courses.
