Abstract

Este artículo describe los niveles de co-aglomeración de la industria colombiana en el periodo 2012 – 2016, e identifica los sectores y regiones con mayor grado de asociación entre parejas de firmas industriales, a partir de su ubicación geográfica. En Colombia, es el primer trabajo de análisis de co-aglomeración industrial, y la metodología empleada innova en el uso de la empresa como fuente apropiada para la medición de las economías de aglomeración en países en proceso de desarrollo. Los resultados muestran un alto grado de co-aglomeración con industrias dependientes de la explotación de recursos naturales, mientras gran parte de las parejas de mayor co-aglomeración corresponden a sectores desarticulados en cuanto a las cadenas productivas. También, se observó divergencia regional en los niveles de co-aglomeración, con características diferentes entre las zonas centrales y periféricas del país. Estos resultados implican la necesidad de la formulación de políticas de desarrollo industrial que promuevan una transformación estructural a favor del crecimiento en la productividad con la formación encadenamientos productivos, transferencias tecnológicas y asociación entre diversos sub-sectores industriales en un mismo espacio, teniendo en cuenta la diversidad regional existente.
