Abstract

As economic growth has slowed down, there has been a general revival of interest in the problems of income distribution. While the economy grew rapidly, people were interested in making the economic pie as large as possible. Now that a certain income level has been achieved, they are showing growing interest in its distribution. Furthermore, the inflation rampant for the past two years has raised the question of distributional equity, as it has given rise to wider income disparities between those who took advantage of inflation and those who did not. One of the most pressing policy tasks for the government is to achieve distributional equity while keeping inflation under control.
