Chapter 3. What Is the Most Likely Future Trend of the Pillars of Japanese Management?

Abstract

This chapter addresses the future aspects of the Japanese economic and social system, with a particular focus on the future direction of certain traditional values of the Japanese management system. To this end, we examine the most likely trends for lifetime employment, the seniority wage system, the enterprise union, bottom-up management, and certain secondary characteristics of the Japanese model. We offer proof that changing corporate governance rules at both the worldwide and domestic levels will overthrow the traditional Japanese model. This will also speed up the decartelization of the zaibatsu.
