Affordable Housing: A Proposal for Equity-Rental Trades

Abstract

As a result of the last decade’s 2009–2022 ongoing transference of mortgages to government-sponsored entities and the Federal Reserve, the home mortgage market is now quasi-nationalized. The proposal herein is to allow homeowners in financial trouble to engage in federal government equity-for-rental trades. These trades would help provide housing security for millions. Such a program would also provide a favorable backdrop for additional governmental building and ownership of affordable housing in the open spaces surrounding major metropolitan areas. Open-space communities would avoid current housing efforts plagued by density problems. They would also further the argument for building much-needed energy-efficient mass transit systems.
