Abstract

Over the past decade or so there has been a profound structural change in the world economy as the nations of Asia have forged ahead at rates far exceeding those of the United States and Europe. This economic transformation has been led by Japan, but the "our dragons" of Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore have quickly followed in Japan's wake. In recent years, the so-called Asian economic miracle has spread to SoutheastAsia and to the People's Republic of China
