Decisions should be Taken on the Mainstream Reforms in Cropping Systems

Following liberation, simultaneous with improvements in the condition of water conservancy, fertilizer, and seed varieties, most farming regions of our country carried out reforms in the cropping system to one degree or another. Not surprisingly, in the process of reforms on such a large scale, many problems arose. In addition there were questionable leadership methods such as trying to solve problems with "one knife stroke" and "blind direction," all of which exacerbated the conflict between using land or allowing it to lie fallow, and between crops and ecology. Quite a few comrades, in the spirit of seeking the correct solution through practice, suggested methods for solving these conflicts. Others advocated changing everything back to the way it was or learning from American farming methods of a single crop each year. We will discuss our views on the basis of many years of investigation and experiment in numerous places.
