Africa and Europe: Toward a New Beginning

Abstract

Africa can no longer be neglected. The European Union’s envisaged “New Partnership with Africa After 2020” could become the great leap forward in intercontinental relations it intends to be. Starting in 2020 after an assessment period of three years planned to start in 2017, it could set an example of how future developmental cooperation can look: By revisiting insufficient existing arrangements and inspiring a new level of economic, political and social cooperation, the current African-European refugee and migration crisis could become a positive, if dramatic motor toward mutual progress.
