Indonesia - US Economic Relations Under APEC: Problems and Prospects

Abstract

Hubungan ekonomi antara Indonesia dengan Amerika Serikat (AS) berjalan dengan sangat baik, khususnya dalam masa Orde Baru. Perdagangan antara kedua negara berkembang dengan cukup tinggi. Kedudukan AS dalam struktur perdagangan Indonesia menempati urutan kedua, meskipun kebalikannya, peran Indonesia dalam perdagangan AS adalah sangat kecil, kurang dari 1%. Investasi AS di Indonesia juga cukup penting, khususnya di bidang pertambangan dan lembaga keuangan. Namun hubungan baik ini tidak terlepas dari gangguan kerikil-kerikil. Khususnya Indonesia sering terkena ancaman-ancaman perdagangan yang berkiatan dengan masalah pelanggaran hak atas milik intelektual, kelestarian lingkungan serta klausula-klausula sosial seperti perlindungan di bidang ketenagakerjaan. Selain daripada itu, Indonesia dan AS bergabung dalam forum kerjasama APEC, dan forum ini dapat dipakai sebagai jembatan untuk lebih mempererat hubungan antara kedua negara serta mengatasi perselisihan-perselisihan perdagangan di masa-masa mendatang. Hubungan ekonomi antara kedua negara ini merupakan hubungan antara dua negara yang sangat berbeda namun saling melengkapi. Yang satu adalah negara industri maju, sedang yang lain adalah negara yang masih dalam tahap pembangunan.
