Abstract

One of the major population problems in Indonesia is the population distribution among the regions. Most of Indonesian people lived in Java. To overcome this problem, the government develop a transmigration program. However, in 1990 there was still 60% of Indonesian people lived in Java (only 8.7% decrease from 1930). To deal with this issue, the author stresses the importance of community participation. The Non Government Organization (LSM), the community leaders, press, intellectual people, private sectors, as well as the transmigrants themselves play an essential role in supporting the government program. Therefore, it is important to build a cooperation among all parties
