Abstract

This study estimates the relative impact of public health programs on household 'nutrition' behaviour. The main question to be answerred is that to what extend does lower socio-economic status of households received benefits from the provision of information through public health programs in integrated service post or Pos Pelayanan Terpadu (Posyandu). The new-home economic model is used for theoretical basis to unswer such question, giving much attention to infant feeding practices as a variable which represents household behaviour of 740 rural West Sumatra households. The study shows that lower educated mothers received much benefit from the provision of nutrition related information compared to higher educated counterparts, although such benefits were not statistically significant as what economists expect. The study also discuses policy implications.
