Abstract

A number of ike key challenges of sustaining development are reflected in the current-issues that occupy macroeconomic policymakers in Indonesia. The relative high real interest rates which have been around for quite a while, their effect on private investment, and tensions in the financial system have raised concerns about the risks and uncertainties they pose to the sustainability of growth as well as to the stability of macroeconomic and financial environment. Keeping the economy on a sustainable growth path, however, will call for a coordinated use of fiscal and monetary, policies. The purpose of this paper Is to show that the efficacy of both fiscal and monetary policies, under certain circumstances, is affected largely by the way people form their expectations.
