Abstract

Pengalaman menunjukkan bahwa pasar modal dapat memberikan sumbangan yang tidak kecil bagi peningkatan perkembangan dan pembangunan sesuatu negara. Sebagai wahana yang dapat menggalang dana jangka panjang, pasar modal dapat secara lebih optimal lagi menggali "kemauan menabung" (the willingness to save) masyarakat dan menyalurkan dana tersebut kedalam proyek-proyek produktif yang memenuhi prioritas pembangunan, sehingga memenuhi sasaran objektifnya. Tetapi dalam arti sasaran subjektifnya, penabung dengan niat menyisihkan tabungan untuk jangka panjang, melalui pasar sekunder sewaktu-waktu dapat mencairkannya, sehingga baginya menjadi dana jangka pendek dengan pendapatan berupa dividen atau bunga dan capital gain.
