Abstract

Berkecamuknya inflasi dunia dan ketidakpastian dalam kurs mata uang sejak beberapa dasawarsa terakhir ini telah mendorong pemikiran baru akan peranan uang dalam ekonomi terbuka. Seri pemikiran tentang masaalah tersebut dimulai dari pendekatan elastisitas (elasticity approach) yang memusatkan perhatiannya pada sektor produksi dan sangat tergantung pada kondisi Marshall Lerner. Pendekatan kedua, ketiga, dan keempat adalah masing-masing: "income", "absorption"dan "policy approach". Ketiganya, masih tergantung pada kondisi "Marshall-Lemer" walaupun penekanan analisanya menggunakan analisa pendapatan nasional yang dikembangkan oleh JM. Keynes. Dalam keempat pendekatan pertama ini neraca pembayaran dianggap sebagai neraca transaksi berjalan (current account).
