Abstract

Natural rubber has properties which synthetic rubber cannot emulate. Natural rubber production is labor-intensive, is unharmfui to its environment and at the moment, has excess capacity. These are only a few of many factors vdiich are at the base of its potentially bright long-term future, and that of the approximately 2.5 million people in Southeast Asia which are directly employed in this sector.
