Economic Aspects Of Animal Husbandry In Indonesia

Abstract

There is no question that Animal Husbandry in Indonesia is still in a primitive stage. It is characterized by traditional subsistence methods of operation which are incidental in nature. But some observers may wonder why it is that the strong domestic and foreign demand for cattle has failed to encourage a rapid increase in production. Some reports now indicate that if intensification programs to boost production are not carried out, by the end of Second Five Year Plan, only South Sulawesi and Aceh will still be able to continue as exporters of cattle. The other provinces which are traditional cattle exporters may have to cease to export and become net cattle importers.
