Abstract

During the latter part of the rule of president Sukarno, because of worsening inflation and the radical brand of nationalism practiced in those days, the economy was stagnating and the balance of payment worsening. The country tended to isolate itself from the West, while on the other hand, significant amounts of economic aid from socialist countries and suppliers' credits from several western countries (including Japan) were disbursed in the form of factory equipment. A number of industrial projects were under consideration which, however, seldom took of the ground
