Abstract

Research on the economic possibilities for the establishment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in the harbour area of Tandjung-Priok, Djakarta, or its neighbouring areas, was undertaken by the Institute of Economic and Social Research (LPEM) of the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, in the first half of 1971. The research was requested by the Department of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, which for several years has a deep interest in and committment to formulating new strategies and developing new institutions, in pursuing the nation's export-drive efforts. A research team headed by Mr. Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti was then formed by LPEM to execute this research project.
