Economic Considerations in Mineral Development in Indonesia

Author

Listed:
  • James F. Mcdivitt

Abstract

Mineral resources are among the most important pre-requisites to the building of an industrial economy, providing as they do construction material for industrial structures, steel for machinery and equipment, and the fuel and in many cases the raw materials for industrial processes. A high level of industrialization generally implies a high use of minerals, and a country which is in the process of industrialization normally places considerable emphasis on the development of its mineral resources to provide local raw materials for industry. In planning this development it often happens that some of the unique characteristics of mineral resources are overlooked with the result that the industry may not be able to operate at optimum efficiency.
