El espejismo de la modernidad en Medellin, 1890-1950

Abstract

Los cambios producidos en la morfología urbana en el período que va desde finales del siglo XIX y las primeras décadas del siglo XX, cuando la ciudad de Medellín inicia un proceso de modernización, pueden ser utilizados para realizar una interpretación del tipo de ciudad que su élite de poder tenía en mente, así como del imaginario de ciudad que pretendían construir. Cuáles fueron algunas de las obras públicas que causaron un impacto notable en el desarrollo urbano, como fueron percibidos los incendios ocurridos en la plaza de Berrio en las primeras décadas del siglo, qué tipo de ciudad se construye sobre sus escombros y cómo se van destruyendo sucesivamente y de manera reiterada los referentes urbanos y desfigurando o desdibujando otros, son algunas de las preguntas y reflexiones que trataremos de responder en este ensayo.
