Mortalidad, crisis economica y costo de vida : analisis de coyunturas sociodemograficas Medellin-Colombia, 1917-1985

Abstract

Este articulo pretende demostrar Que Medellín a pesar de ser un centro industrial de formación temprana, no ha logrado irradiar socialmente (mejores condiciones de vida y de salud para la población) los beneficios del desarrollo económico. Por el contrario, el modelo de industrialización ha tenido como factor de acumulación una permanente política de "bajos salarios", Que obliga a la fuerza de trabajo a someterse a un régimen de reproducción social de grandes sacrificios en términos de las condiciones de salud y riesgos de muerte. Estimaciones de mortalidad general e infantil a partir de estadísticas vitales mostraron una relación inversa permanente, durante el periodo de estudio, con el índice de salarios reales. Es así como aún en situaciones de crecimiento económico se observó un decremento en los salarios reales y aumentos importantes en la mortalidad.
