Abstract

Colombia has a lack of professionals in relation to its strategic needs. At same time the educational system produces abundant professional without some areas (mainly in economics, business and accounting) while in other areasgenerates greater deficits than the average. The mayor reason for this surplus of professionals in economic science has to be found in the uncontrolate extension of evening courses in small private universities. This system allows the reduction of indirect costof education (the forgone wages while studying) and the permanent increase of fees. The result is that despite the fall caused on the salaries and employment figures, the rate of return on education does not -change. It is necessary to control the quality of theprivate universities offering those programs (mainly evening courses) and also (o support the public universities. To do this, it is necessary to create some conditions and the association of professionals must play an important role about it.
