Abstract

An increasing number of technical requirements, public and private, for the commercialization of goods, puts Argentina’s international insertion at risk. We approach this problem by conducting case studies in Argentina in the blueberry and agricultural machinery sectors. We describe the technical requirements imposed by relevant foreign markets and analyze firms’ challenges and strategies to cope with them. We find that technical requirements are not an unsurmountable barrier for firms that decide to comply, but they can still hinder their international insertion. Public policies can help firms be aware of and comply with them effectively and inexpensively.
