Challenges faced by accounting education in Bulgaria

Abstract

Accounting education in Bulgaria in recent years has faced a number of problems that have their economic, social, demographic and technological dimensions. On a global scale, the developmentof multinational companies and international business, sustainability reporting, outsourcing activities, franchising, the digitalization of processes and the use of artificial intelligence are factors that affect not only the economy as a whole, but also the development of the accounting profession. Accounting education in universities must be in line with the need for practice by specialists capable ofadapting to adynamiceconomic and technological environment. The purpose of this article is to place some emphasis on the new economic realities, outlining some necessarychanges in the teaching of accounting subjectsin universities in Bulgaria.
