Abstract

Ausgangspunkt dieses Aufsatzes ist Arrows berühmtes Unmöglichkeitsresultat aus dem Jahre 1951. Arrow hatte bewiesen, daß innerhalb eines bestimmten axiomatischen Rahmens keine Soziale Wohlfahrtsfunktion existiert. Zunächst wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche positiven Ergebnisse erzielt werden können, wenn man jeweils eine der axiomatischen Forderungen abschwächt. Dann wird das Problem der Manipulation des Abstimmungsergebnisses durch eine bewußt falsche Angabe der eigenen Präferenzen behandelt. Ein weiterer Abschnitt befaßt sich mit Ansätzen, die ordinale und nicht interpersonell vergleichbare Nutzenindikatoren durch kardinale und interpersonell vergleichbare Nutzenfunktionen ersetzen. Schließlich wird die Frage der Ausübung individueller Rechte innerhalb eines sozialen Abstimmungsprozesses untersucht. Auch hier existiert ein recht bekannt gewordenes Unmöglichkeitsergebnis, welches zuerst durch Sen formuliert wurde.
