Abstract

The development of the official statistics in the Soviet zone and the German Democratic Republic is characterized by a quick transition from the official statistics of the German Teich to the state statistics typical for the socialistically planned economy. Starting from a short description of the development of the official statistics in Germany earlier than 1945, the author then goes into the form and content of the official statistics in the Soviet zone from 1945 to 1949. Furthermore there is a closer look at the development of the official statistics in the German Democratic Republic. The transition from the official statistics of the German Democratic Republic to the federal statistics took place in an very short time. This point is dealt with in the last paragraph which at the same time give the prospects for the present situation of the federal statistics in the new Lands of the Federal Republik of Germany.
