Abstract

The rapid adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has transformed healthcare data management; however, existing systems face challenges related to data privacy, security, interoperability, and patient control. Traditional centralized EHR systems are vulnerable to cyberattacks, data breaches, and unauthorized access while providing limited transparency regarding data usage. This paper proposes a Blockchain-Based Patient-Centric EHR Management System that enables verifiable consent management, secure data sharing, and immutable audit logging. The proposed architecture employs a permissioned blockchain integrated with smart contracts to enforce role-based and time-bound access control policies defined by patients. Sensitive medical records are encrypted and stored in secure off-chain storage, while blockchain maintains metadata, consent records, and audit trails. The system enhances data integrity, transparency, interoperability, and patient empowerment. Experimental analysis demonstrates improved security, access control efficiency, and traceability compared to traditional EHR systems.
