A Comprehensive Review of Transformer Models and Their Implementation in Machine Translation Specifically on Indian Regional Languages

Abstract

Machine Learning is currently one of the favorite areas of research because of its multitasking nature. Natural Language Processing has revolutionized the word especially after the advent of transformers. So much research is going on in NLP that a comprehensive review paper was needed to analyze how far we have gone form the starting point and how different variants of transformers are used in building machine translation models. In this review paper the focus is also being placed in research related to machine translation model implementation of Indian languages, they are still a lot of Indian regional languages exist which are still unexplored and provides a big gap for researchers to work in this direction. Our review paper will give researchers a direction to begin their research on regional languages of India This paper will serve the dual purpose of giving the idea about latest sate of art models developed in NLP using transformers and motivation to use them on regional Indian languages. After reviewing this paper researches came to know about the challenges faced by the researchers in doing research on Indian languages.
