Abstract
Aging is a natural and inevitable process associated with physical, psychological, emotional, and social changes that significantly influence the quality of life of elderly individuals. The increasing aged population in India has raised concerns regarding helplessness, health deterioration, dependency, and socio-economic insecurity among senior citizens. The present study aims to investigate the impact of demographic variables on helplessness and health status of aged individuals in Siwan District of Bihar. The study focuses on various demographic factors such as age, gender, marital status, locality, family type, living status, and socio-economic background, and examines their influence on the psychological helplessness and optimum health status of elderly people. The research adopts a descriptive survey methodology. Standardized tools including the Helplessness Scale and Optimum Health Status Scale are utilized for data collection. The sample comprises elderly individuals aged 60 years and above selected from rural and urban areas of Siwan district using stratified random sampling technique. Statistical techniques such as mean, standard deviation, correlation, t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis are proposed for analyzing the collected data. The study is expected to reveal significant relationships between demographic characteristics and levels of helplessness and health status among aged individuals. The findings may contribute to gerontological research and assist policymakers, healthcare professionals, and social welfare organizations in designing effective intervention programs for improving the psychological well-being and health conditions of elderly populations.
