Abstract
In Buddhism the symbols has played significant role as in the other religion of Ancient India. The noteworthy symbols of Buddhist iconography are the Bodhi tree, the Triratna and the Stupa. One of the most characteristics symbols of Indian art from earliest times, which decorates the national flag, is the spooked wheel is repeatedly compared with the wheel of law (Dharma chakra) in Buddhism. The symbol does not arise from aesthetic experience but forms part of the cultural patrimony, from which it is selected for purposes of artistic expression. This explains the deep connection between symbolism and the religious imagination. This paper highlights the representation of Buddhists symbols in the art and sculpture of Panchala. Specific aspects of symbolism, mythological standards of importance and prevalence of common symbols will be discussed in this research study. Relevance of symbols in Buddhist iconography is remarkable. Symbols were not only initially depicted but also played significant role to represent aesthetic expression of sculptures and art of Buddhism. These symbols are used in Buddhist art and iconography to visually represent the teachings and concepts of Buddhism, making them accessible to practitioners and reminding them of the path to enlightenment.
