The Impact of India’s Foreign Policy Shift on Africa under Modi’s Leadership

Abstract

India’s foreign policy has undergone a significant transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, particularly in its engagement with Africa. This study examines the strategic shift in India-Africa relations, focusing on economic, geopolitical, and diplomatic dimensions. The research aims to assess the impact of Modi’s foreign policy on Africa’s development and India’s global positioning. Using a qualitative methodology, the study analyses policy documents, trade agreements, and diplomatic engagements. The conclusion shows that India has consolidated its footprint in Africa through summits at the highest level, concessional lines of credit, and partnerships in trade, technology, healthcare, and education. The findings point towards a transition from passive diplomacy to active engagement, reaffirming India's position as a leading figure in Africa's economic and infrastructural growth. The research concludes that the changing partnership has long-term connotations for international geopolitics as well as South-South cooperation. It suggests additional policy convergence to realize maximum mutual gains.
