Plagiarism Perception of University Students

Abstract

In this article, university students’ perceptions of plagiarism are examined. The data in the research are collected by the questionnaire technique. By the questions asked to the students studying at some state and private universities, the students’ general information about plagiarism, if they are conscious of the concept of plagiarism, the causes of plagiarism and the students’ suggestions to prevent plagiarism are examined. The data obtained in the result of the research show that university students have general information about plagiarism, the majority of the students have learned of the concept of plagiarism during undergraduate education, they are conscious of the concept of plagiarism, some reasons such as that the students do not know of the points of plagiarism, they seek the easy way to do homework, they dont know well the laws of plagiarism, they don’t regard plagiarism as a crime, they have lack of foreign languages and the internet has an easy access to information, lead to the plagiarism. Besides, the students think that instructors should give education adequately in order to prevent plagiarism, and so they should raise the awareness of the students.
