Perfil ndustrial de la manufactura mexicana

Abstract

Una visión descriptiva del sector industrial de la manufactura consiste en identifi car su perfi l básico. Contribuir a conformar dicha visión es el propósito de este artículo, que utiliza información estadística de los años fi nales de la primera década de vigencia del TLC. Los datos estadísticos y los resultados de las estimaciones que se exponen, nos indican el aumento del número de establecimientos por tamaño y su distribución territorial. En otro sentido el artículo muestra la participación de los diversos subsectores de la actividad manufacturera en los procesos de innovación e investigación del sector, según distintos indicadores. En este aspecto, en términos relativos, los indicadores utilizados muestran la marcada orientación del conjunto del sector hacia la mejora de procesos, situación que revela la vocación de la manufactura mexicana a resolver problemas de efi - ciencia y reducción de costos, más que a la búsqueda de posicionamientos competitivos de carácter tecnológico y productivo./ A descriptive overview of the manufacturing industry is to identify their basic profi le. Help shape that vision is the purpose of this article, which uses statistical information from the fi nal years of the fi rst decade of the TLC. Statistical data and results of the estimates presented, indicate the increasing number of establishments by size and geographical distribution. In another sense, the paper shows the involvement of the various subsectors of manufacturing activity in the processes of innovation and research in the sector, according to various indicators. In this regard, in relative terms, the indicators show a marked orientation of the whole industry towards improving processes, which reveal the vocation of Mexican manufacturing to solve problems of effi ciency and cost reduction rather than seeking competitive positioning of technological and productive
