Abstract

From the first quarter of 2007 financial analysts around the world focused its attention on the financial crisis in the United States and the impact it would have on their countries economic indicators. The mortgage crisis that resulted in Mexico had a decrease in the amount of exports, a decrease in the amount of remittances from Mexican citizens living in the u.s., a decrease of jobs in plant closings, increased exchange rate and increased requirements for access to different forms of financing. Financial crises can be viewed as a portfolio problem, in which investors restructure their investment portfolios to avoid potential losses. The aim of this paper is to formalize a theoretical model that describes how investors structure their portfolios when faced with two financial assets denominated in different currencies.
