Abstract

The study presents a qualitative evaluation of PEMEX´s governance structure. Specifically, we analyse the economic convenience of the current size of the company. Based on a Transactions Cost Economic Approach, we conclude that for the company is better if it keeps a unified government structure and avoids to desincorporate more activities of the productive chain. This result is also congruent with the international trend in the oil industry, where we observe better economic results in those companies with participation in the upstream and downstream sectors.
