Abstract

La relación de la inversión de portafolio y los niveles de ingreso con el indicador de desigualdad no es robusta o estadísticamente significativa./ Through a time series econometric analysis for the period 1970- 1999 and through the application of an innovative data set, which contains estimates of household income inequality indicators in a continuous form, this paper shows that imports and Foreign Direct Investment (fdi) have a robust and positively correlated relationship with inequality. In contrast, tertiary education is associated with improvements in income distribution. The relationship between portfolio investment and the income level with the inequality indicator is neither robust nor statistically significant.
