Letter to the Editor—Reliability Estimates in the Exponential Case

Abstract

The best reliability estimate obtained from a finite sample of time intervals taken from an exponential distribution has previously been derived. Instead of solving an integral equation, this result can readily be obtained by dividing an interval of fixed length in a random fashion and considering the resulting subinterval statistics.
